Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol that is used to encrypt the data exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to secure the info that visitors submit on your Internet site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, etc. Any data they input in any box on the site shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Typically, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, meaning that the overall cost for your online presence will be bigger. While this may not be a problem for a larger business, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store that does not generate big profits if additional money should be spent. That is the main reason why we have taken advantage of an extension referred to as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Cloud Hosting
Since we offer SSL certificates with our cloud hosting packages, you can easily secure your Internet site and use a shared IP address with only a few clicks. The option will be available during the order procedure, hence if you have a dedicated IP, you'll be able to use it, but if you do not have one and you do not want to pay for this type of a service, you could use the shared IP, that has been configured particularly for SSLs. The certificate shall work in the same exact way as if it had a dedicated IP and the one difference will be that if someone attempts to open the IP address as a URL, they will not see your site. As our system features an auto-configuration option, the SSL shall be installed automatically the moment it's issued, so you shall not have to do anything on your end after you approve it. In this way, you'll be able to have a secure and trustworthy site without having to spend extra money for that.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Any SSL certificate can be used with our specifically configured shared IPs, so if you have a semi-dedicated hosting account, you could use this option with just a few mouse clicks when you install a certificate that you obtain through us or through another retailer. For the SSLs which we offer you can also take advantage of another function and have our system set everything up for you. This way the instant you approve the SSL, the shared IP address will be set for the specific domain or subdomain and the certificate shall be installed without any action needed on your end, and thus any data that website visitors submit on your site shall be secure. The SSL will work in the same exact way no matter if it's set on a shared or a dedicated IP address and the one thing that is different between the two setups is that inputting the shared IP as a URL inside a web browser will not open your website.
