The dot SE country-code top-level extension was set up in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domains were bought. Individuals were allowed to order only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. only Swedish individuals, business entities and organizations could obtain a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized significantly and, as a consequence, the number of .SE domains has been rising each year.

At this time, anyone can get a .SE name, which gives you the chance to reach the Swedish web community even if you do not have a local presence.
